YL Muckfest 2012

Lee's Summit YL had our annual Muckfest (food fight) to kick off our Fall Semester of YL.
It is amazing to be with high school students and provide a place for them to be kids.  What high school student doesn't crave to be crazy, throw oatmeal, jello, paint, and flour at one another?  What high school student doesn't want to have fun, be free, and be accepted?  We are simply earning the right to be heard.  Young life leaders taking oatmeal to the face and getting messy with kids is meeting students where they are at.  Isn't that what Christ offers?  Doesn't He come to us and meet us there?  YL is doing that for LS students and maybe you thought it was just about throwing oatmeal...  it's about so much more!  God bless the teenagers of LS!

Beautiful Things

If you saw Jesus and He asked, "What do you want?" What would you say?

I would want Him to say, "Good job Tracee.  Well done.  You are doing it, living for me, and I'm proud of you."  My heart aches for those words.  I shared this with my cabin one evening at YL camp.  The next night we had YL club and I was exhausted.  Beat down and broken.  A situation had happened that was taking much of my time and energy and distracting me from loving students and Christ.  I just didn't have much left to give.  I was standing by the door to the club room away from our huge crowd of LS students.  Drew and Ellie (the camp musicians for the month) began to sing one of my all time favorite songs, Beautiful Things.  At that moment LS YL students looked around to find me.  ME?  Saying my name- Tracee, come sing with us.  Let me tell you my heart rejoiced.  The fact that LS high school students hear a worship song and think of me and want me to worship beside them is incredible.  It was as if Jesus said, "Good job Tracee.  Well done.  You are doing it, living for me, and I'm proud of you."

I'm not sure what you want from Jesus.  I know students want to be loved by Him, to be known, to be heard, to never be left, to be new.  Jesus is answering those requests.  We have been back from camp for over a month and students are still living for purpose.  It has been hard coming down from the mountain of Frontier Ranch but God came back with us.  He promises to never leave us and all things are useable by Him.  Many students have began walking in Christ, some have fallen already.  YL celebrates the steps they took and we help them back up again.  Isn't that grace and mercy?  First the fall, then the recovery from the fall... and walk again.  Both are the mercy of God.

You make me new

You make beautiful things
You make beautiful things out of the dust
You make beautiful things
You make beautiful things out of us
